Abu Dujana was a great and brave Sahabah. He was so courageous that the non Muslims would be afraid of him because of his reputation. If the Muslims were in a difficult situation or if they were under attack from bad people, they knew that Abu Dujana was ready to help them.
However, everyone that new him also knew that he was extremely kind and a very gentle and fair person. He would read Qur’an and study Islam deeply. He was always respectful and polite and would never get angry or use bad language.
Once Abu Dujana was very ill so a group of Sahabah went to visit him. This is a sunnah of the Prophet (pbuh) to visit people when they are ill.
When the sahabah met Abu Dujana, they saw that he was very ill but his face was shining with noor. The companions were very surprised so they asked him about this noor or light.
Abu Dujana replied that he could not think of anything that would cause him to have this noor apart from two qualities. Firstly, he did not talk about things that had no concern to him. Secondly, he said that he kept his heart clean with regards to other Muslims.
The Sahabah were very happy. They had learned two important lessons from this great sahabi. They should not get involved in talking about things which do not concern them. This includes chit-chat about worldly things, people and events which give no one any benefit.
The second valuable lesson they learned from Abu Dujana was never to hold bad opinions or thoughts, Jealousy and envy and any form of hatred or grudge against any Muslims, Instead they should think good of everyone else.
