Great masjids throughout the Muslim World - Musalla kidz newsletter for Muslim Children education

Assalamu-alaykum, Its me Amina.

Every year the girls have a competition at our Islamic classes.

This is the best time of the year, we get a break from our studies to revise and learn.

This year we are getting tested on Qira’ah and  Islamic knowledge… its really hard.

Penpal says that it’s easy, just like scoring a goal in Fifa 2007 but what do brothers know!

My dad said I must enter both competitions even though there are lots of kids that are better than me.

My dad said it does not matter as long as I try my very best. In Islam, we must do our best and work as hard as we can.

My mum says, “Give it your best shot and you will always be a winner for me.”

My mum is great and such a softy!  Amina

Allah has given us many blessings and we should always be thankful for them. To be truly grateful, we must use these blessings to do good things. For example, Allah has give us intelligence so we should use it by trying our hardest at school and mosque.

Intelligence is a great blessing that many people fail to take advantage of. The best way is to always try hard and never give up or be lazy. We have to reach the top level in every thing we do which was a quality of the Sahabah.

Early Muslims had different skills and they were always at the top of their ability. Some were experts in Tajweed and Qur'an, some were experts in Fiqh, some were experts in language whilst others were experts in architecture. Islam brought the best out of these Muslims.

Zayd bin Thabit and his friends were going to help the Muslims defend Madina from the Makkans. The Muslims had to face this formidable army which was huge and had many weapons, horses and armour. The Muslims army was tiny in comparison and had very few weapons.

All the Muslims wanted to join in and help, this was the reason that Zayd and his friends were travelling to Uhud. Zayd and his friends were youngsters so when the Prophet (pbuh) saw them he was not happy with them being there.

Zayd and his friends insisted that they were big enough to stay. The Prophet (pbuh) only allowed a few of the lads to stay, those who were considered strong and skilful enough. The rest, including Zayd, were told to return home.

Zayd was crying as he returned home to his mum. At home, his mum told him to start studying Islam and memorise some Surahs from the Qur’an. From that day his study in Islam began and one day He would become a hafiz and a respected scholar.

A few months later, Zayd took the opportunity to recite some of the Qur’an to the Prophet (pbuh). The Prophet (pbuh) was very happy with Zayd and encouraged him to study more. Soon he became an expert on the Qur’an and many other languages. He then became the secretary of the Prophet (pbuh) and would write on his behalf.

After the Prophet passed away, the Khalifs entrusted him with many great responsibilities. He was in charge of collecting the Qur’an and preserving it in writing. He was loved and respected by all Muslims. We too are indebted to Zayd bin Thabit for all his hard work and knowledge.
