My story: The gang

Assalamu-alaykum,

All my friends at school are wearing chains. This was the latest craze. They were walking around pushing the little kids about.

They told me I had to get some chains as well so that I could join their cool gang.

When I got home I asked my mum if I could get some money to buy something from the shop.

When my mum gave me money, I rushed to town to buy a super-cool chain. Soon I would be part of the gang.

I was looking at the chains when the lady behind the counter asked “Is it for you?”

When I said yeah, She said, “I thought for a second you were a Muslim.”

I felt embarrassed and realised I had made a mistake. I am proud to be a Muslim so I should look and act like one as well! PP

lesson: Best role model

It is a fact that we will face many difficult situations in our lives. It doesn't get easier when you grow up. These difficulties change but are always there.

Take the example of doing sums. Sometimes they are so hard and your brain begins to ache with all the working out. Once you practice the sums, they seem to get easier and before you know it, you have mastered it.

This is true for everything in life. If you find something difficult, you should never give up or lose heart. If you trust in Allah and keep going, you will one day be successful.

Islam is not about doing things the easy way but its about doing things the right way. If we keep trying really hard we will succeed. This was the character of the best teachers—the prophets and also the best of people—the Sahabah. So remember when the going gets tough , Muslims keep going.

story: The choice

Umar was very strong and brave. People were scared of him because of his firey nature. He had not accepted Islam yet and was an enemy of the Muslims. He would even beat up people who accepted Islam.

Today, Umar was angry, in fact he was very angry. He had enough of Muhammad (pbuh) and he was going to do something about it. He got his sword and marched into the streets of Makkah to find Muhammad (pbuh) and put an end to Islam. People who saw Umar realised that someone was in big trouble today.

As Umar walked down the street he met Nuaim who asked him where he was going with his sword. When Umar told him that was after the prophet (pbuh). Nuaim said, “Why don't you check your own house first before you go after him (pbuh).”

Umar became angrier and headed towards his sisters house who had accepted

Islam. When Umar got to the house, his sister and brother-in-law were studying the Qur’an. As Umar knocked on the door, he heard the verses of the Qur’an. He went into the house and questioned his sister. He then began to beat them up.

Later, Umar asked his sister what she was reading and she told him that it was verses of the Qur’an. After having a bath, Umar read some verses of the Qur’an himself and realised that Islam was the truth. He had got a taste of Islam. He had to make a choice of either following the religion of his tribe and forefathers or following the true religion. This was a big decision for Umar and he decided that he had to make the right choice and follow Islam.

He became a very pious and kind Muslim. He was very just and in the future he became a great leader of the Muslims. Umar had gained success in this life and in the next life. Umar had chosen Islam and refused to follow the false teachings of his people and friends.

did you know

Allah created the earth in six periods or stages. Some people believe that Allah rested after creating the universe.

In Islam we know that Allah does not need anything. Allah does not need sleep, food, water, rest… in fact Allah is free of all such needs. Allah doesn’t need anything from creation whilst all creation is in need of Allah.

Penpal reflects

Assalamu-alaykum, We all have to make big decisions when we grow up. However, when we are young we also have some big decisions to make. For example, our friends might want us to behave in a bad way which is not good for Muslims. You have to be brave and say no! PP
